Year 1 - Autumn 2 - Week 6

Date: 6th Dec 2023 @ 11:48am

What a wonderful week we have had in Year 1!

We had a very special task as we started this week, we have been recruited by Father Christmas to help him create some wrapping paper. We found this extremely exciting! We knew we would be up for the challenge. As a part of our new Maths topic 'Shape' we have been asked to identify and sort 2D shapes to help create a pattern for our wrapping paper. This week we began to sort a range of 2D shapes and describe what makes them 2 dimensional. We used our understanding of shapes to help us identify the features of each shape. We had to hunt around our classroom to find the shapes, this was great fun! We can't wait to complete the task in time for Christmas.

In Geography this week we had another brilliant lesson on the United Kingdom, this week our focus was Scotland. We discussed Scottish food, as we looked at Haggis and tasted some delicious shortbread! This was one of our favourites so far. We loved exploring Scottish music, and were fascinated by the bagpipes. We then looked at traditional Scottish dancing, and even had a go ourselves! We recalled our prior learning as we named the 4 countries in the United Kingdom, and discussed the key features of each one we have learnt so far!

This was an extra special week in Year 1 as we finally got to perform our Year 1 Nativity! We have had an amazing time learning, rehearsing and performing Whoops a Daisy Angel! We have tried our very best each week practising our singing and dancing, and we had the best time doing it for all of our families! This was such a special day for us in Year 1, we hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did, thank you all for your support!

You all deserve a fantastic weekend break! Well done on your hard work, I am so proud of you all!
