What an “eggciting” week we have had, here in Year 1! We’ve enjoyed Easter crafts, animal art work and a visit from a very famous bunny.

This week, we had an extra special Collective Worship and joined our friends in Year 2 to lead our own Easter Service, at St. Peter’s Church. Year 1 enjoyed listening to the Story of Easter and so beautifully read aloud some Easter prayers, to remind us of the true meaning behind this special time of year. The children sang their hearts out and brought so much joy to those who attended the service and we could not be prouder of their wonderful contribution to the service.

In DT this week, we explored moving pictures and how we could bring our drawings, on paper, to life! We investigated different mechanisms and were so excited to apply what we had learnt to create our very own moving Easter cards. We demonstrated our school value of “Hope” and showed great resilience whilst creating our cards, as we tackled some tricky designs and concepts. During the design, make and evaluate process, Year 1 had a lot to consider and put so much care and thought into every step of the process. We think that our moving cards perfectly reflect all of the excitement and joy that the Easter period brings and we are certain that our friends and family will be just as proud of us as we are of ourselves!

As well as our “eggcellent” cards, Year 1 have had so much fun joining in with lots of other Easter activities, this week! Our Year 1 star bakers made some delicious nest cakes, carefully measuring, adding and mixing the ingredients, before turning them into the tastiest of nests. The children have also enjoyed creating their very own Easter decorations, working hard to decorate and create some fantastic 3D hanging eggs.

Adding to the Easter fun, Year 1 couldn’t believe their eyes when they had a visit from a very special bunny! The children could not contain their excitement when they saw the Easter Bunny hopping around our outdoor area. He was certainly feeling mischievous as he danced, played and explored our school grounds. We felt very lucky to have received some yummy treats from him too!

A huge well done for your hard work this half term, Year 1! We are very proud of our superstars and are looking forward to seeing what exciting learning the Summer Term brings.

Have the most wonderful Easter!
