Year 2 - Autumn 1 - Week 1

Date: 9th Sep 2022 @ 3:27pm

Y2 A1.jpegWow, what an incredible start to the school year! We have had an amazing week settling into our new classroom. We have had a wonderful time catching up with our friends and teachers.

We had a magical beginning to our Year 2 journey, when an Encanto candle was delivered to the classroom! We were excited to find out what it meant. Mirabel from Encanto had sent a message telling us that she needed our help to keep the candle glowing! We had to help her by completing challenges linked to our school values. For every challenge completed, an Encanto character charm would appear, making the candle stronger. Year 2 were ready for their mission immediately.

Our first mission was to go on an Encanto word hunt. Year 2 were tasked with exploring the playground to find as many Encanto butterflies as they could. We used our school value ‘Serve’ and ‘Nurture’ to discuss each word that the butterfly had printed on their wings. We carefully thought about each word and how they helped us and each other to be our best, thinking about how they linked with our school values.

We then recognised that we all have special powers that might not be visible, just like the characters in Encanto. We brainstormed and realised that we have some amazing powers and gifts hidden inside of us. We created our own ‘Madrigal’ door, showing everyone what our amazing and special powers were.

We loved using the parachute for our first PE. We solved problems, nurtured with helping hands, worked as a team and went head-to-head for some challenges. We are so excited for our next PE lesson. We then went exploring in Colombia, found out what animals we could find there, what food we could eat and even learnt some Spanish. Then, we danced like Luisa, enjoying every moment with happy feet.

In our busy week, we even became animators when we designed a brand-new character to join the Madrigal family. Some could fly, others could control the ocean and some could even make people dance whenever they wanted!

It has been a pleasure welcoming the children to Year 2 and we look forward to the year ahead. Don’t forget to follow our Twitter account @Year2TSP to see our learning highlights throughout the week.

A reminder that our PE lesson will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays. Weekly spellings will also begin to be set next Friday.

A poster containing 100 recommended reads for Year 2 children has been attached to this blog. By providing 100 quality texts at an age appropriate level, this list may be useful when choosing your child's next book. We hope it inspires the children to continue on in their reading journeys whilst further encouraging a lifelong love of books and stories.

Well done for all your hard work this week, Year 2! We can’t wait to see you on Monday! Have a lovely weekend!
