We have had another fantastic week here in Year 2!

We started the week by reading all about Samuel Pepys, looking at facts about him and even reading some of his diary!

In Maths, we continued our topic of ‘Place Value’. We started by writing numbers up to 100 in digits and words. Then we revised and solved number facts to 20 and discussed the value of each digit. We then had the challenge of a ‘Mystery Picture’ where we had to solve the number facts, colour them in and reveal the hidden picture. Next week, we will continue to focus on place value, showing numbers on a number line as well as using mathematical symbols.

In English, we enjoyed exploring our new books, developing our writing skills as well as saying and holding our sentences carefully. We were very eagle-eyed, making sure we used appropriate punctuation throughout.

In Art, we looked at the artwork ‘The Four Seasons’ created by Giuseppe Arcimboldo. We analysed and discussed what we saw in each painting and how they linked to the seasons. Afterwards, we imagined how our own seasonal painting might look and thought about what we would include.

This week in Science, we put on our ‘Facts Hats’ and researched an animal to create our very own fact file. We found out loads of interesting facts about flamingos, elephants, sloths and many more!

We then finished the week by singing our hearts out for our Harvest Service! We loved singing these hymns over the past couple of weeks and hope you sang along with us in church. To celebrate National Fitness Week, we joined the incredible Dame Darcey Bussell for a virtual dance and had a little boogie with her. Strictly, here we come! We then ended the day by discussing ‘The Creation Story’ in RE and talked about how important and special it is to us.
