What a wonderful week here in Year 2, filled with so many exciting learning opportunities!

In Music, we focused on finding the beat of a song – tapping and singing along to ‘Hands, Feet and Heart’. We then impressed Miss Finlay, Mrs Giles and Mr Hughes by learning it off by heart and performing it for them at the end of our lesson.

In PE, we all showcased our school value and had ‘Hope’ to believe in ourselves that we could all do our absolute best. We concentrated on our running and dodging skills, playing various games and having friendly competitions to continually improve these skills.

We put our ‘facts hats’ on in Geography, when we explored the continents and oceans of the world. Year 2 learned about the equator, how to tell if a country is hot or cold as well as being able to name all the continents and oceans!

In Science, we were able to classify objects into their groups – living, dead or never alive. This required us to put on our ‘thinking hats’ as we worked in groups to identify and sort objects into their matching ‘hoop’.

This week in Maths, we focused on Place Value and showcasing what each number is worth. We have been working hard to break down numbers into their tens and ones as well as being able to partition numbers to 100. Not only this, but we have been revising our number bonds every day!

This week also marked Roald Dahl day and we were inspired by our class novel ‘James and the Giant Peach’ to create our own Roald Dahl bookmarks. Year 2 are loving our novel and like James are eager to find out what will happen next.

Don’t forget to follow our Twitter account @Year2TSP to see our learning highlights throughout the week.

A reminder that school photos will take place on Wednesday 21st September, can Year 2 please come to school in their uniform on this day instead of their PE kit.

A poster containing 100 recommended reads for Year 2 children has been attached to this blog. By providing 100 quality texts at an age appropriate level, this list may be useful when choosing your child's next book. We hope it inspires the children to continue on in their reading journeys whilst further encouraging a lifelong love of books and stories.

Thank you for such a lovely week, Year 2! We can’t wait to see you on Monday! Have a very relaxing weekend!
