Year 2 - Spring 1 - Week 1

Welcome back everyone! Even though it has only been a short week, we certainly have been continuing to work hard here in Year 2.

In RE this week, we also celebrated the Epiphany. The children really enjoyed learning all about this and enjoyed discussing the different aspects of the Epiphany. We discussed the presents that the Wise Men brought Jesus and then, linking in with our Collective Worship value of ‘Wisdom’, discussed and wrote down what different presents we would give to Jesus if we were one of the Wise Men. The children came up with some brilliant ideas and really enjoyed creating their Wise hearts to show how much they cared.

In English this week, we began by discussing what we did over the half term and then planned out some ideas that we were going to write up. We then used our notes to create some lovely pieces of writing, ensuring to include our Year 2 features throughout our writing. Next week, we will be starting our new text and starting our work on this.

In Maths, we have been completing our addition and subtraction, focusing on number bonds to 100 (40+60 and 65+35) and adding three 1-digit numbers together (4+3+6). This has been a tricky concept to grasp at times, but through working hard and perseverance, the children have made some really good progress in this. Next week we will be looking at different money and understanding how to add money together.

This week, we have been finishing our Geography topic, by creating our own maps with a key. In order to solidify our understanding of symbols in a key, we then completed a grid, with the children creating their own appropriate symbol for different locations you may find on a map. The children have worked really hard with this and I have been really impressed with the progress they have made in their understanding throughout this topic.

Year 2 reminders

• Please remember to bring a water bottle filled with water into school.
• Our PE days are a Monday and a Thursday. Come into school in your PE kit on these days please.
• If you are bringing in show and tell, please just bring in one item as we do normally have a lot to go through.
• Please bring in one snack for before play time as it is not long until the children will be going into lunch afterwards.
• Please see our virtual classroom attached if you wish to assist your child further during the holidays.
• Spellings will recommence week commencing Monday 10^th January
