What a busy week we have had here in Year 2!

In RE this week, we continued our new topic ‘Jesus, friend to everyone’. In this, what we can do to show that we love Jesus and the reasons in which we could do that. We created our own circle, which showed all of the reasons in which we show we love Jesus, Eg: caring for other and being honest. The children came up with some lovely ideas and discussions through this and I was really impressed with the work that they completed. It’s lovely to see that we have such kind and caring children in our class.

In English this week, we continued our new story ‘The Dragon Machine’. The children have been really busy completing lots of impressive work. We have been creating our own exclamation sentences, came up with our own rules for keeping a dragon and even created our own mythical creature whilst describing them using noun phrases. The children have absolutely loved the story so far and I am really looking forward to seeing the work that the children produce again next week.

In our Maths this week, we have moved on to looking at equal and unequal groups, as well as multiplication. The children have really impressed me with how they have taken to this concept and, although tricky at times, the children have continued to work hard and make excellent progress with this. Next week, we will be continuing with our work on multiplication. It would be excellent if you had some spare time to practise your child’s number bonds to 10 and even 20. A great way to do this is through games and ‘Hit the button’ on Top Marks is fantastic. Here is the link -  https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

In History this week, we continued our topic ‘What is life like as the Queen of England’. We looked at Queen Elizabeth I and the Tudor Monarchy. The children learned lots of different facts about the Tudors and then together, completed lots of different facts about this. It was lovely to see how many of the different facts the children had understood during the quiz at the end of the session.

This week, we continued our Music lessons. We were very lucky to have a music specialist coming in to class and helped us to learn some fun songs. We started with our recorders this week and the children loved this. We were also lucky to have our singing teacher come in for some excellent singing. The children loved this and are really excited to continue singing ‘The Family Madrigal’ from Encanto next week.

The children really enjoyed their PSHE lesson this week all about their dreams and goals. We listened to an inspirational song about never giving up and wanting to make sure that we achieved our goals. The children loved this and it was lovely to see them with beaming smiles on their faces.

The children have also been trying really hard in our handwriting lessons this week. Handwriting is so important throughout the school, so if you have any time to help your child with this, then that would be greatly appreciated.

I have also set all children up on TT Rockstars and Sumdog. Your child will have their username and passwords in their bags and these are great to help them in their Maths.

This month's top book picks from 'Love Reading' have been released today. It shares exciting new story books from a variety of authors for different age ranges.
