What a busy week we have had in Year 2!

In RE this week, we continued our new topic ‘Jesus, friend to everyone’ focusing on the story of ‘Jesus and the Ten Lepers’. They showed great empathy when discussing this how the lepers felt. We linked this to our value of Nurture and spoke about the importance of choosing kind.

In English this week, we continued reading our story ‘The Dragon Machine’. After, we discussed the main parts of the story, the children began to create plans for their own story, taking care to use interesting and exciting vocabulary throughout. The children cannot wait to write their own version next week and share them with one another.

In Maths this week, we have been looking at multiplication and representing these in different ways (lots of, groups of etc). The children have tried really hard with this and persevered throughout the week. Next week, we will be looking at the division symbol and sharing into equal groups. You can support your child at home by practising sharing anything into equal groups at home.

In History this week, we continued our topic ‘What is life like as the Queen of England’. We looked at Queen Victoria and her life. We discussed and understood what life was like during this time. In Science, we started our new topic ‘Young Gardeners’ looking at different parts of a plant and their functions. Next week, we will be carrying out an investigation by planting our own seeding in different conditions. We will then observe the plants over the next few weeks to see what conditions are best suited for a plant to grow.

In Music, the children continued to play the recorder and are fortunate enough to be taught by specialist, Mrs McArdle. Mrs McArdle will be working with the class from now until Easter. If you would like to buy the recorder for your child, please send the money into the school office and we will send it home for your child to practise. We have also been lucky enough to have Miss Dilworth to help us with our singing. Practising and singing our next part from Disney’s ‘The Family Madrigal’ continues to be a highlight for the children.

In PSHE, the children enjoyed discussing about learning with others and spoke about the importance of always listening to others. We also spoke about how it is important to work with others in order to help us to learn.

I hope you all have a lovely and well rested weekend and I look forward to seeing you all next week!
