What an exciting week in Year 2!

As always, we have continued to work hard here in Year 2! We have been learning all about 2D and 3D shapes and their properties. Learning about different shapes and their vertices, the children have really gained a good understanding of this. Next week, we will begin to draw our own shapes.  In RE, we looked at the Easter story and discussed how the main characters would have been feeling throughout. In Music, we were fortunate enough to have Mrs McCardle teaching us even more on the recorder (some of us even performed in small groups!) as well as Miss Dilworth finishing teaching us the song ‘Roar’ by Katy Perry. The final product was really impressive. In Geography, we looked at the different animals that live in Kenya and the reasons that they live in their habitat. The children came up with some amazing ideas and really showcased their knowledge and in PE, we moved on to bouncing and catching a ball and the skills required to do this. In Art, we spoke about how we use our pencils to sketch in different ways. The children are excited to try this out next week when they create their own self-portraits. We also celebrated International Women's Day by celebrating the women in our lives and understanding exactly how important they are to us.

We continued our Collective Worship this week, with our focus being on ‘Sacrifice’. We discussed how some children are not as lucky as us in being able to come to school and why it is important for us to take the opportunity to learn. We further discussed if anybody has sacrificed anything for Lent and the reasons that they might have done this.

In English this week, we have been really focussing on writing in the past tense as well as using an apostrophe in our work. E.G: Amelia was being unkind to William’s toys. The children have really enjoyed this and have grasped this concept well. They have further included this in other writing that they have completed, showing that they have a good understanding of this. Over the coming weeks, we will be continuing to work on this.

We would like to say a massive thank you to Callum and Laura for coming in this week from the Merseyside Police to talk to us for National Careers Week. The children were fully engaged and loved finding out what the police do, why they became police and what they need to do to become a policeman or policewoman. They also came up with some amazing questions for them to answer. It was lovely to see how engaged and inspired the children were throughout the session and how happy some of them were when they got to try on the police outfits.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and are ready for another hard-working week next week.

Year 2 Reminders

  • Next Friday, we will be celebrating Red Nose Day. Your child may come in with a red nose or red boppers and we will have some exciting activities for the afternoon.
  • Please ensure that children’s hair is tied up if it is longer than shoulder length. This is because cleanliness of hair is paramount.
  • Children’s recorders are to be brought in every Monday for our recorder sessions. If your child would like to take home a recorder, they can be purchased from the school office.
