We have had an amazing week in Year 2 and everyone definitely deserves a restful weekend after all the hard work I have seen in our classroom.

On Monday, we entered school to evidence of a wolf in our classroom! The children were enthralled and immediately began investigating, asking questions and problem solving ways to catch the wolf. The children used amazing adjectives to write a character description of the wolf to display around the school to encourage everyone to keep an eye out for the wolf.

In RE this week, we continued to look at special places and showed each other respect by listening to one another during discussions.

In English, we started reading the first few pages of ‘The Last Wolf’.  We wrote a list of what we would need to catch a wolf, including words such as ‘because’ and ‘so that’ to provide reasons for our decisions. We also wrote rules for Little Red to follow, focusing on using apostrophes in contracted form such as ‘Don’t stray off the path, unless it looks safe.’ Our writing is improving each day and we are proud of ourselves! With Mrs Piercy, the children practised reading comprehension skills.

In Maths, we have focused on recognising and finding halves, quarters and thirds of both shapes and amounts. Miss Lucas was very impressed! Some children have been using the vocabulary ‘numerator’ and ‘denominator’, which has blown Miss Lucas’s socks off! With Mrs Piercy, the children developed their understanding of strategies to answer addition calculations in their head and by using jottings to work out calculations which were a little trickier.

In Science, we discussed why keeping fit is important for a healthy body and a healthy mind. We were very lucky on Thursday to have a PE session with Ultimate Kids. We played lots of fun, active games. In Art, we were introduced to the artist, Andy Goldsworthy, who is famous for his sculptures and photography.

We had lots of fun playing ‘What time is it Mr Wolf’ this week. Each week, we will learn some new playground games, so we have a variety of activities to choose from during our play times.

What an exciting week we have had in Year 2! Enjoy the bank holiday weekend and we look forward to hearing your news on Tuesday.
