This week has flown by and we have been busy bees Year 2.

In RE, we have widened our knowledge of special places to different faiths. Mrs Piercy read us the story of Jacob’s dream and we created our own pictures of the dream.

We have enjoyed delving into Fantastic Mr Fox in our reading lessons. The children have used retrieval and inference skills to answer questions and used drama techniques to retell key events. It was wonderful to see children eager to act in front of the class.

In our writing lessons, we looked at adding the suffixes -er and -est onto words such as loud – louder – loudest. The children used this language to write a warning notice to people entering the woods. We read more of our focus book ‘The Last Wolf’ and were introduced to the Last Wolf, the Last Bear and the Last Lynx. In the story the characters talk about ‘the good old days’, and we talked about our understandings of memories. The children really enjoyed writing in character, pretending to be a wolf, bear or lynx recalling a happy memory before they became endangered. With Mrs Piercy, the children continued to practise reading comprehension skills and also learned about homophones.

In Maths, we have continued learning about fractions. It has been wonderful to see the children’s understanding develop further. We learned the difference between a unit fraction and a non-unit fraction. The children were challenged to find 2/4 and ¾ of amounts. We will continue focusing on finding ¾ next week. A huge well done to everyone for your focus and determination this week.

We linked PE with Science this week and completed some fun exercises in a circuit. We identified which parts of the body we were using for each exercise and extended our vocabulary by using some names of the muscles. The children were amazed that they could feel their pulse either in their wrist or neck. We also focused on creating a healthy mind by identifying what makes us happy, how we can cheer ourselves up and some strategies to support ourselves when we feel sad or angry.

The children were extremely excited to hear the news that there will be a talent show coming up soon and have spent most playtimes practising their performances. This has been a delightful sight.

Have a great weekend, see you on Monday!
