Year 2 - Summer 2 - Week 5

Date: 8th Jul 2022 @ 1:16pm

IMG_9296[1].JPGWhat a fantastic week we have had making memories we will treasure for a lifetime. We were superstars on our school trip making delicious pizzas and exploring the cityscape of Liverpool. We were over the moon when we bumped into Leanne and Scott outside St John’s Beacon Tower. Did you hear our shoutout on the radio?

In RE this week, we recapped our understanding of Pentecost and looked at the different symbols that are used to represent the Holy Spirit. We then focused on the Fruits of the Holy Spirit and expressed our understanding through created collages of the fruits in groups.

In Writing, we wrote some wonderful descriptions of the village which appears in our focus books ‘Grandad’s Secret Giant’. We used lots of amazing adjectives and emotion words. On Wednesday, we talked about we can become authors and as a class we planned a new version of the story by changing the characters and setting. The children cannot wait to write their own stories next week.

In Maths, we have practised mental arithmetic, missing number calculations and multiplication tables. Children should now be secure with their 2, 5 and 10 multiplications. Next, the children should learn their 4, 8 and 3 multiplication tables. The 4 and 8 multiplication tables have a link to the 2 multiplication table, so this is a great way to learn them quicker by recognising the patterns.

In Reading, we read a fabulous fairy tale called ‘King Thrushbeard’ and had a very interesting discussion about how our impressions of characters changed throughout the story.  This week, we had an assembly with Formby Library who introduced us to the Summer Reading Challenge. If your child is interested, please register at the library and encourage them to read six books throughout the holidays. Every two books your child reads they will receive a prize when the books are returned and new books are taken out. If six books are read, children will receive a certificate in school and we may even win a trophy as a whole school if lots of children participate.

On Friday, we had a super Science morning with a Science teacher from Formby High School. We focused on dissolving and made observations. The teacher was impressed with our scientific vocabulary. Then in the afternoon, we used our learning from yesterday to inspire artwork to create our very own cityscape of Liverpool using pastels and black craft paper.
