The fun has continued this week in Year 3 and we cannot wait to see what the rest of the term has in store for us!

We were delighted to take part in our first friendly football match this week against Woodlands Primary school, practicing during our breaktimes and talking tactics as a class. The game itself was great fun with an incredible turn out of 16 players, this meant that we could play our game in two halves to ensure that we all had a go. Although we didn’t win, we had a super time and showed incredible determination and sportsmanship, for that we are incredibly proud of you all. That wasn’t the only celebration of the week as we were delighted to welcome members of the National Trust Formby back to our school, to showcase our incredible mural made completely out of recycled materials. They were so impressed with our work they gave us a special certificate. Well done Year 3, you have been incredible reflecting our school values of Nurture, Imagine and Enjoy.

Our topic on Fractions continued this week in Maths, and we have loved every minute on this unit. At the start of the week we explored creating different fractions using cheerios carefully cutting them into halves and quarters to ensure that they were equal. Later in the week we investigated finding and making a ‘whole’ using fractions before moving on to tenths. Next week will be our final week on fractions and we will be looking at adding and subtracting them.

We have continued with our ‘Journey’ in English this week planning and writing diary entries for the girl, paying special attention to how our character felt and behaved at the start of the story when her family were ‘too busy to play with her’. We loved how the author and illustrator used red to highlight the items that were bringing her joy in the first part of the story and how the door to her new world was also red! Next week, we will continue to unpick the story creating setting descriptions, using expanded noun phrases, prepositions and conjunctions.

PE has had a calming tone this week as we continued with our yoga sessions, practicing our breathing and stretching skills whilst forming different shapes. It was the perfect lesson for us to unwind and relax in after such a busy week. On Thursday we were joined by Ultimate Kids for another thrilling and enjoyable activity session. We were so grateful to try a range of different activities, whilst keeping fit and active.

In Art we designed and created our own piece of jewellery, taking inspiration from both modern and new forms and were fascinated to learn how they were created and what special stones were selected. Sticking with the creative theme, we have also loved participating in our music lessons which have included the instruments drums and recorders, who new you could play ‘Baby Shark’ on so many instruments!

Have a wonderful bank holiday weekend, Year 3.
