A full week of having Sparkle the elf in Year 4 can only been one thing… magical mischief has been taking place in the classroom. Sparkle has truly been having lots of fun wrapping toilet roll around our Christmas tree, taking a glitter bath in the sink and even making a slide with our reading books. We cannot wait to see what she gets up to next week.

We linked our Collective Worship value of Compassion to our School value of Nurture, reminding ourselves to be kind to ourselves and others. We learnt that our attitudes and actions must reflect the kindness, mercy and compassion of Jesus and the love of God for everyone. Jesus lived and Jesus loved to show us how the Father loves.

In English, we used expanded noun phrases and selected appropriate nouns to describe the events that took place before Leon entered the mysterious box in our story ‘Leon and the Place Between.’ We have been remembering how to punctuate our speech and ensuring that we only close our speech marks one a comma, full stop, question mark or explanation mark has been used. We have also loved using Spellie, a children’s version of Wordle, to help us develop our spelling and vocabulary.

In Maths, we have looked back at some of the assessments we carried out to spot times when we could have used a method to check our calculations. We revisited the written methods we use when calculating, reminded ourselves of the inverse operations and how to create fact families for addition and subtraction. Our times tables recall continues to progress with the help of our times tables wheels, number tracks and time spent of Times Tables Rockstars.

After exploring the features of a Roman town, we took a blank outline of a real Roman town and acted as a town planner, deciding where buildings should be located and the features required inside the town. We made sure a Forum and Basilica were located in the bigger buildings, with the semi-circular building becoming the open-air theatre. Our towns of course including straight roads and houses where the rich might live.

One more week together before we say our goodbyes for the festive period. I hope your elves are on their best behaviour this week, Year 4!
