Is that really another school week over and done already? Even with the bank holiday Monday, the remainder of the week has absolutely flown by. One thing is for sure, we have had lots of fun in many different lessons with so much learning taking place!

We have been busy getting ready for the Harvest Service at St. Peter’s Church next week which Year 5 will be leading. Linking to our core school values, we considered the beauty of God’s creation and the importance of showing gratitude and appreciation of all that we have. Even more importantly, we considered those who don’t have as much as we do, not just in other parts of the world, but here in the UK too. We look forward to seeing lots of parents there on Monday morning to mark and celebrate Harvest.

In English, we delved further into the incredible (and somewhat bizarre) tale of Annie Edson Taylor in 1901. All that we know so far is that Annie is a school teacher who performed a daredevil stunt involving a barrel and Niagara Falls. We created social media posts in role as Annie and we also wrote postcards to back home as if we were visitors to Niagara Falls. Roll on next week!

We also read some biographies from the inspirational book, ‘Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls’ as we learned about computer scientist, Margaret Hamilton, who played a pivotal role in the Apollo 11 moon landing. We also learned about Mary Anning who made some incredible fossil discoveries in the field of palaeontology. This will be our focus text for the remainder of this half term with plenty more tales of courage, bravery and creativity to follow!

In Maths, we have been focusing upon writing numbers as words and also rounding to the nearest 10. We were also introduced to ‘Blooket’ which the children LOVED as we practised our times tables and division facts through various games such as ‘Crypto Hack’, ‘Gold Rush’ and ‘Battle Royale’. Next week’s lessons will continue our focus on rounding and extend to comparing and ordering numbers to 1,000,000. We’re sure there will be some more Maths games thrown in there too!

A fantastic week and we are already looking forward to all that next week will bring. In the meantime, enjoy your weekend and I will see you all on Monday!
