We are now halfway through our final half term of Year 6!

This week, it has been National Sports Week and we have celebrated it through a variety of ways. On Tuesday, we took part in a Lap of Hope – linked to our school value – which involved the children running a lap of the whole school, including through some of our classrooms! Prior to this, we reflected on all the sporting opportunities that have been able to return to school this year following Covid and national lockdowns and acknowledged our gratitude that ‘normality’ was able to return this year. The children then made ‘Power Pledges’ – writing down their hopes for the world in the future – and carried these around with them on their Lap of Hope. The day concluded with an assembly led by our Sports Ambassadors, which explained the upcoming Commonwealth Games. As it was also National Music Day, the assembly finished with the whole school singing Gary Barlow’s song, ‘Sing’. It was lovely to have all our KS1 and KS2 classes together this; once again, it was a symbol of normality returning after two years of disruptions.

Continuing with our sporting activities, the children have been able to take part in Bikeability sessions throughout the week. On Thursday, the children also had a practice of their upcoming Sports Day and for their PE lesson, they chose to play their favourite activity…dodgeball!

In a PSHE lesson on Thursday morning, we learned about athlete, Dame Kelly Holmes and why she is such a recognised GB athlete. We watched parts of her interview from This Morning on Wednesday where she ‘came out’ and were able to make connections to our conversations about footballer, Jake Daniels coming out earlier in the year. Once again, we recalled why public figures ‘coming out’ is still necessary in today’s society and how we should respect differences in all areas of life.

Our production rehearsals have been going well. The children have been given specific roles now, although this is still only an early draft and additional lines will be added in as we continue to rehearse for those children who want larger roles. Information regarding outfits will be shared next week, although this shouldn’t involve anything more than sourcing a t-shirt of a particular colour. Everything else will be purchased / sourced by the school.

We hope everyone enjoyed the Summer Fair on Friday. Have a great weekend, everyone!
