Autumn 1 - Week 3
Another action-packed week in Year 3!
In English, we planned and wrote imaginative setting descriptions inspired by our quality text, When the Ocean Meets the Sky. The children produced some wonderfully creative ideas and successfully included many of the writing skills we have explored this term, including fronted adverbials and similes.
In maths, we continued developing our understanding of place value by working with Base 10 equipment, number lines and part–whole models. We even took our learning outdoors to practise the 2 times table!
On Tuesday, we enjoyed a fantastic visit from Dan the Skipping Man and took part in an energetic skipping session. Congratulations to Oliver and Mila, who represented Year 3 in the end-of-day performance. Well done also to Penelope, who won a skipping rope in recognition of her excellent effort during the session!
In science, we continued learning about the importance of a balanced diet. The children were particularly interested in examining food labels and discovering how the traffic-light system helps us make healthier choices. In geography, we explored the different countries of Europe and practised locating them on a map.
In RE, we continued developing our knowledge of prophets by learning about Moses and the burning bush. During PE, we practised jumps and balances in gymnastics, as well as passing and defending skills in hockey.
Over the next few weeks, we will be developing our times-table knowledge. I will share links to helpful videos that the children can access at home if you would like to support their learning. We are beginning with the 2 times table this week and will gradually progress to other times tables.
