Curriculum Statement:
At Trinity St. Peter’s, we are committed to providing the highest quality teaching and learning for every child. Our curriculum is deeply rooted in our Christian vision and values, which shape not only what children learn, but how they experience learning and grow as individuals.
Guided by the value of Serve, we create a learning culture founded on respect, fairness and compassion. Children are supported to make good choices, repair relationships when things go wrong, and develop a strong sense of responsibility for themselves and others. Adults model forgiveness, understanding and restorative practice so that every pupil feels valued, listened to and supported.
Central to our approach is our bespoke Teaching and Learning Model, developed specifically for our school. The 4C Thinking Model ©, alongside our Learning Curve, supports children to become curious, creative and critical thinkers while developing resilience and self‑belief. Through our value of Hope, pupils are encouraged to persevere, take risks in their learning, ask for help when needed and recognise that success looks different for everyone. Effort, growth and progress are celebrated, with high expectations maintained for all while honouring individual learning pathways.
Our curriculum is underpinned by a knowledge‑engaged approach to subject disciplines, ensuring that both substantive knowledge (what pupils learn) and disciplinary knowledge (how knowledge in each subject is constructed and used) are explicitly taught and carefully sequenced. Subjects are taught discretely to ensure their integrity and that sufficient time is dedicated to high‑quality teaching and learning. Learning is coherently planned so that knowledge, skills and key vocabulary are progressively developed within each subject area.
Using the EYFS Statutory Framework and the National Curriculum as a foundation, our curriculum is enhanced through carefully selected pedagogical research. A robust approach to retrieval practice is embedded across all subjects to ensure that learning is secured and retained within pupils’ long‑term memory. Our curriculum is three‑dimensional, with strong vertical links that build knowledge year on year and horizontal links that enable pupils to make meaningful connections across subjects.
Through our value of Imagine, our curriculum nurtures creativity, exploration and reflective thinking. Children are encouraged to ask questions, test ideas, learn from mistakes and reflect on what might work better next time. Adults provide multiple opportunities for pupils to express their thinking and develop deeper understanding through guided discussion and feedback.
In addition to following and enhancing the National Curriculum, we ensure learning is current, relevant and meaningful so that children understand the world they are growing up in today. Carefully chosen experiences, including educational visits and sessions with experts, enrich learning and strengthen pupils’ understanding of the local community and the wider world.
Underpinned by the values of kindness (Nurture) and joy (Enjoy), we prioritise emotional safety, wellbeing and a strong sense of belonging. Trusted relationships, play, creativity and joy are integral to our curriculum, ensuring children feel safe, confident and motivated. When emotions feel big, adults support children to understand and regulate them so that every child feels cared for and able to engage fully in learning.
