Nursery - Autumn 1 Week 5
Date: 1st Oct 2026 @ 6:41pm
What a wonderful week we have had in Nursery, filled with autumn adventures, exciting firsts, lots of laughter and plenty of opportunities to learn together!
We started our week with PE, where we went on an ‘Autumn Walk’. We explored space and experimented with moving in lots of different ways as we became falling leaves, spinning sycamore seeds and jumped over conkers and twigs. We hid from the Gruffalo, then transformed into snuffling hedgehogs and scurrying squirrels as we searched for nuts and carefully carried them back to our trees to hide! Along the way, we met friends and excitedly told them all about our walk before the wind suddenly came along, blowing the leaves and branches high above us. What a fun-filled adventure we had!
Back in Nursery, the sweetcorn so kindly provided by Mrs Greenwood gave us the perfect opportunity to get our sleeves rolled up and have a go at making ‘sweetcorn fritters’. We practised our knife skills, followed our recipe and enjoyed developing our baking skills. We were very proud to eat our homemade fritters for snack and they were so delicious that we decided we needed some more the following day too!
Tuesday brought another exciting first as we joined with Reception for our very first Forest School session of the year. We worked hard mastering our puddle suits and wellies before setting off on an exciting ‘follow the leader’ adventure to our on-site Forest School. Once there, we learnt our Forest School rules and then enjoyed a very giggly game of ‘1, 2, 3, Where are you?’ We loved every minute of our outdoor adventure and were certainly ready for some clean hands and a little rest when we returned!
Wednesday saw another very special first as we attended our first WOW Service at St Peter’s Church. Led by Lilly, our Harvest Service gave opportunity to talk about ‘sharing’ as we too shared, by donating foodstuffs for the food bank. Thank you to all our families and friends. Nursery absolutely smashed it as we confidently acted out ‘The Little Red Hen’ and sang out for all to hear. What a joyous service it was, and we were so proud of everyone for joining in so beautifully.
In Maths, we have continued to recall our new mathematical word ‘match’ and explore matching items to a criteria; such as, shape, colour, size and are gaining confidence in saying when it is a 'match' and when it is 'not a match' and why. We then enjoyed matching a simple beat. We began with body percussion, before introducing claves to ‘match’ simple patterns together. This also linked beautifully with our Early Listening skills as we had to listen carefully to copy the pattern.
As we headed towards the weekend, we spent some special time with our SHINE friends and began learning about the ‘Super Cool Story of Jesus’. We talked about how Jesus showed love through the things he did and created a large ‘Jesus showed love by…’ heart. The children shared their own wonderful ideas and added pictures and marks to show different ways that we can show love too - by helping, sharing, giving a hug, being kind and listening to others. We learnt that ‘Jesus showed us that love isn’t just something we say - it’s something we do.’ What a beautiful message to carry with us!
Another busy, beautiful and brilliant week in Nursery - we are so proud of all the wonderful things our little learners have achieved.
Wishing you all a wonderfully warm and wonderful weekend, filled with lots of lovely moments together!
Warm wishes,
Mrs Grayson and the Nursery team
