What a super, seasonal and smile-filled week we have had in Nursery!

We started our week with a Magical Monday as we transformed into superheroes during PE! Using our large parachute, we imagined what our very own superpowers might be before choosing a coloured cape and getting ready to fly around the world. We lifted our capes high into the air, making them soar above us - sometimes so high that we could even spot other superheroes underneath! We then ‘wore’ our capes and flew around in a circle, moving our bodies in different ways. What a wonderful way to start our week - we were certainly feeling superpower-charged!

Back in Nursery, we made our very own ‘Superhero Autumn Juice’. We juiced pears and mixed the delicious juice with pineapple juice and ice to make a refreshing drink, which we enjoyed alongside some tiger bread for snack. We certainly enjoyed being our own little superheroes in the kitchen!

In Early Listening, we have continued to bring our farm theme to life. Inspired by our learning about autumn and the farm, we created our own farm sounds and enjoyed singing ‘Old MacDonald Had a Farm’. We have also been practising our describing skills by giving clues about different farm animals and seeing if our friends could guess which animal we were thinking of. Of course, adding the animal sounds made this even more fun!

We have also been enjoying the story ‘Leaf Man’ by Lois Ehlert and loved joining in with its repeated phrase, “A Leaf Man has to go where the wind blows.” This got us wondering… could we make a leaf go even further by blowing it ourselves? We put our breath to the test and had great fun blowing leaves, watching carefully to see how far they travelled. There were lots of giggles, surprises and plenty of enthusiastic blowing!

In Maths, our focus has been sorting objects according to a set rule. We have been exploring ideas such as sorting red objects and not-red objects. At times this has been quite tricky, but just like our SHINE friend Leo, we have reminded ourselves not to give up! We have been learning to look carefully, think about the rule and have another go when something doesn't quite work.

Inspired by the stories we have been reading, we have also noticed that not all homes are the same. This gave us the perfect opportunity to become ‘House Detectives’ and head out on a walk around our local area. We spotted two-storey houses, bungalows and detached houses. We looked carefully at their different roofs, noticing that some were pitched and some were flat and we discovered that all the houses we found were built from bricks. It was wonderful to see how curious the children were as they looked closely at the world around them.

Our Autumn finds have continued to fill our classroom with treasures from the season. We have been busy creating our own autumn trees and making faces using our natural finds. We have used our treasures to count, sort and match, while our small-world play has transformed into an ‘autumn’ farm, complete with fields ready for harvesting and all the vehicles and machinery needed to get the job done! Our knowledge and appreciation of this wonderful season continues to grow as we explore, investigate and learn through play.

We ended our week by acknowledging ‘Hello Yellow Day’ and thinking about our thoughts and feelings and some of the things we can do to support our wellbeing. After sharing our ideas, we decided that making some delicious garlic bread and having a little dance would be a wonderful way to help us feel good! So, we got cooking and then turned up the music for a little Nursery disco - lots of smiles, movement and happy faces all around.

Another wonderful week of learning, exploring, creating and growing together. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and perhaps find some time for an autumn walk too. Take a moment to notice the wonders of the season - the colours, sounds and treasures beneath our feet and maybe become your own little ‘House Detectives’ along the way and see how many different types of homes you can spot!
