What a wonderful, busy week we have had in Nursery, filled with exciting visitors, family time, creativity and lots of lovely learning together!

In PE, we are becoming increasingly confident at finding a safe space to move and understanding why this is so important. This week, the ever popular 'Gruffalo' joined us again! Working in pairs, we took turns being either the Mouse or the Gruffalo. Using our most creative ways of moving, the Gruffalo had to follow closely and copy the Mouse, keeping a safe distance as we travelled around our space. Nursery certainly showed us some wonderfully imaginative ways of moving - what fun we had!

In Maths, we have continued to explore sorting objects according to a set rule and the children are becoming increasingly confident with this mathematical concept. We have been practising looking carefully at objects, thinking about what makes them the same or different and deciding where each one belongs.

During Early Listening, we have been putting our listening ears to good use as we try to identify environmental sounds and think about what they might mean. We have also enjoyed exploring rhyming books, joining in with familiar and repetitive phrases with great enthusiasm! There is nothing quite like hearing Nursery join in with gusto when a much-loved phrase comes around again.

In class, we have been delighted to welcome our families for this week's Stay and Play sessions. What a joy it has been to see our eager little learners proudly showing their mums and dads around our learning environment, introducing their friends and sharing all the wonderful things they enjoy doing. These special moments help us to build those important home-school connections, and we are so grateful to everyone who made time to come and join us. Thank you for being part of our Nursery family!

Tuesday brought a very special visit from Mrs Greenwood from The Pumpkin Patch in Hightown. Not only did she kindly bring us some beautiful pumpkins, but she also taught us all about how pumpkins grow. We discovered how a tiny seed begins its journey, how the flowers are pollinated by bees and how pumpkins grow in the fields, ready for families to visit and choose their own. It was fascinating to learn about the pumpkin's life cycle and to think about all the care and time needed to grow these wonderful autumn treasures. A huge thank you to Mrs Greenwood for sharing her knowledge, her time and her pumpkins with us!

As part of ‘Black History Month’, we have been learning about two inspiring individuals who have made a difference in the world. We listened to the story of Garrett Morgan, an inventor who developed an improved traffic signal to help make roads safer. We talked about why traffic lights are important and how their different colours help people know when to stop and when it is safe to go. The children enjoyed bringing this learning into their play, using small world traffic lights and thinking about how we can all help to keep one another safe.

We also discovered the work of Alma W. Thomas, a celebrated African American artist who loved exploring colour and creating beautiful paintings. Inspired by her distinctive use of colourful shapes and patterns, the children set to work creating their own artwork. Carefully choosing and placing colours, they built up their pictures with a wonderful mosaic-like effect. This took time, patience and concentration, and it was lovely to see the children becoming absorbed in their creations as they explored their own artistic ideas. What a wonderful reminder that we can all express ourselves in different ways!

On Thursday, we were delighted to welcome Caroline from church for our first ‘Godly Play’ session of the year. Caroline shared the story of ‘The Creation’, bringing it to life through the use of different materials and storytelling. This gave the children an opportunity to listen, wonder and begin thinking about the wonderful world around us. Thank you, Caroline, for such a special visit.

On Friday, we came to school wearing something red to acknowledge ‘Hate Crime Awareness Week’. We spent time thinking about how we treat one another and the importance of respecting and valuing everyone, whatever their differences. Even at Nursery age, children are beginning to develop an understanding of fairness, kindness and belonging. Through our conversations, we encouraged the children to think about how we can help everyone feel safe, welcome and included.

Nursery life really is the best life! We are so proud of the curiosity, creativity and growing confidence our little learners continue to show.

Wishing all our Nursery families a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Grayson and the Nursery Team
