What a wonderfully busy and adventurous week it has been in Nursery!

We began our week with our ever-energetic Moving Monday’. In PE, we recapped different types of transport and explored ways to move our bodies to represent them. Before long, we became cyclists, carefully moving around the space with great awareness and control. We ended our session with a fun game of ‘Transport on the Go’, and it certainly felt like rush hour, with lots of eager vehicles trying to find their way safely back home!

Back in the classroom, we were greeted by a rather curious mystery… a pair of frilly pants! The big question was - who could they belong to? Alongside this, we discovered the formidable pants of gold from the story ‘Pirates Love Underpants’ by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort, as well as some intriguing pirate treasures, including telescopes. This sparked lots of excitement and imaginative play across our learning environment.

The children have loved exploring the pirate-themed activities around the room. We have been busy scrubbing treasures clean, filling treasure chests with colourful gems, making our very own telescopes with preferred colour cellophane to observe the world and even designing our very own golden pants! There was much delight in trying on the ‘pants’, and we used our fine motor skills carefully with cutlasses (scissors) to snip elastic - such focused and purposeful play!

In Phonics, we learned the sound, s, and the children are continuing to show great enthusiasm as they build their knowledge. In Early Listening, we used descriptive language to talk about our pirate objects, developing our vocabulary and confidence in expressing ideas.

We have also taken a closer look at sea-faring vessels, learning the names of different parts of a ship, including the hull, rudder, mast, crow’s nest and rigging. The children were fascinated by this and enjoyed using the new vocabulary in their play. We have also had great fun singing sea shanties - discovering that they really do make chores a little more fun!

In Maths, we explored comparing quantities using the language more than and fewer than. The children particularly enjoyed the hands-on activities, which supported their understanding in a fun and practical way.

We have truly made the most of the beautiful weather this week, spending lots of time in our outdoor learning environment. The sunshine has brought such joy, and the children have been fully engaged in their play, exploring, moving and learning together in the fresh air.

Wishing you all a sun-filled bank holiday weekend, and we look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday.

Warm wishes,

Mrs Grayson and the Nursery team
