What a delightful week full of kindness, curiosity and wonderful moments of togetherness as the children continued to grow in confidence, understanding and care for one another.

This week, as part of RSE Week, we have spent time thinking about our feelings and emotions and considering how these may link to the feelings of others. We have also explored what makes our family and talked about how every family can look different and special in its own way. Inspired by the beautiful book ‘Family’ by Patricia Hegarty and Britta Teckentrup, the children then enjoyed drawing their own families, speaking proudly about the important people in their lives.

This linked beautifully to the care and consideration we have been showing towards our growing tadpoles. The children have noticed they are getting bigger and have thoughtfully begun asking whether they have been fed - showing a wonderful understanding that living things need care, food and time in order to grow and develop.

Outside, the changeable weather has supported our learning too! The children noticed that our crops and plants have not needed watering by us as often because the rain has provided them with wonderful nutrients. During snack time, the children particularly enjoyed cutting up banana skins to make ‘plant banana food’ for our growing plants - a fantastic way to recycle while helping our garden thrive.

In Maths, we have been exploring 3D shapes, focusing on cubes, cuboids, cylinders and spheres. The children have loved using these shapes to build and create their own structures, developing both their mathematical understanding and imaginative thinking. We have also thoroughly enjoyed opening our sessions with a lively rendition of London Bridge is Falling Down’, which always brings lots of smiles and enthusiasm.

In Early Listening, the children are becoming increasingly confident in using percussion instruments to recognise sounds, identify which instrument has been played, explore loud and quiet sounds and listen carefully to determine which sound came first.

In Phonics, our ‘special friend’ sound this week was 't’. The children have absolutely blown us away with their enthusiasm and participation. They are becoming increasingly confident in using Fred Talk and are taking great pride in practising writing the letter too.

Throughout our learning environment, it has been lovely to see the children joining together with friends, following their interests and sharing their ideas so confidently. There have been many beautiful moments of conversation, kindness and children rejoicing in the achievements of others.

I truly have to say, the wonder of small children really does make every day a ‘smile’ day!

Wishing you all a weekend full of love and happiness, and we look forward to another wonderful week together - not to mention our count down to 'Pirate Day'!

Warm wishes,

Mrs Grayson and the Nursery Team
