Welcome back everyone! We hope you all enjoyed a wonderful half-term break. Although the weather was certainly hot and muggy over the holidays, what a difference a week has made! We returned to Nursery to discover some very exciting changes.

Our biggest surprise came from our much-loved tadpoles, Fred and Ted. Over the break they had transformed into froglets! The children were fascinated by the changes and eagerly checked on them throughout the week. As the days passed, their shortened tails gradually disappeared altogether, making them look more and more like proper frogs. We also introduced them to our Phonics friend, Fred the frog who uses ‘Fred Talk’, and who would have guessed how much they would enjoy meeting him? They seemed to keep popping up to say hello, much to the children's delight!

In Phonics, we have spent time revisiting and consolidating all of the sounds we have learned so far before being introduced to our new sound, 'n'. The children continue to impress us with their growing confidence and enthusiasm for joining in with Fred Talk and recognising familiar sounds.

During Early Listening sessions, we have enjoyed exploring environmental sounds through a range of fun games where the children were encouraged to take the lead. Our enlivened stories have also brought much laughter and enjoyment as the children enthusiastically joined in with repetitive phrases and familiar parts of the stories.

This week our classroom has been buzzing with ‘sunflower joy!’ We have counted sunflowers, painted and drawn them, created them at the dough table and discovered lots of fascinating facts about these bright and cheerful plants. Our learning has sparked wonderful conversations and curiosity. Meanwhile, our small world area has been transformed into an enchanted forest, inspiring imaginative storytelling, role play and some truly magical adventures.

Outdoors, the weather has certainly kept us guessing! Despite the mixed conditions, we have continued to enjoy our outdoor environment and have appreciated how much our plants and crops have welcomed the rain. This prompted some lovely discussions about how plants need water to grow strong and healthy, just as our bodies need food and drink to help us grow too.

On Wednesday, we attended our WOW Service in Church, where Lilly led us in learning about special times and prayer. We enjoyed reflecting on the importance of taking time to talk, listen and be thankful. As always, we sang our hearts out with one of our firm favourites, 'Our God is a Great Big God', it filled the church with joy and huge smiles.

Friday we said a fond farewell to our little frogs. The children have loved watching Fred and Ted grow and change from tiny tadpoles into froglets, and it has been a wonderful opportunity to observe a real-life life cycle unfold before our eyes. We talked about how they are now ready for their next adventure and, over the weekend, Mrs Grayson will be releasing them back into the area from which they came. Whilst we will miss checking on them each day, we know they belong in the wild and are excited to think of all the adventures that may await them. The children showed such kindness and care towards our little visitors, and we are very proud of the responsibility they demonstrated throughout their time with us.

As we begin this final half term of the academic year, I find myself wondering where the time has gone. It only seems a moment ago that we were welcoming many of the children through our Nursery door for the first time, and now we are beginning to look ahead to the exciting changes that await. Time really does move far too quickly when you are having fun! With the end of term fast approaching, we are determined to make the most of every precious moment together, filling our days with laughter, learning, wonder and special memories that will stay with us long after Nursery has finished.

Until then, wishing you all a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Grayson and Nursery team
