What a busy and exciting week we have had in Nursery!

One of the highlights of our week has been preparing for Sports Day. The children have been busy practising a variety of races and challenges, developing not only their physical skills but also beginning to learn about what it means to be competitive. We have talked about trying our best, showing perseverance, celebrating the achievements of others and understanding that taking part is just as important as winning. The children have approached each challenge with great enthusiasm and have certainly enjoyed plenty of cheering and encouragement along the way!

We have also spent time wondering about our special visitors, Fred and Ted. The children have shown great care and curiosity, asking thoughtful questions about whether they made it home safely and what adventures they might be having now. It has been lovely to see how invested the children have become in their journey and how much they care for the world around them.

In Maths, we have revisited the properties of some familiar 3D shapes, recalling what makes a cube, cuboid, cylinder, cone and sphere special. We then focused on what number comes after, using practical activities and games to build our confidence with number sequences. The children have enjoyed spotting patterns and helping one another to work out the next number.

Our phonics learning continues to go from strength to strength. This week our special friend sound was 'n', and the children have been eager to spot it around the classroom and think of words that begin with the sound. We have also thoroughly enjoyed playing "Fred Talk - Mrs Grayson Says", as well as listening to stories where we had to carefully blend sounds together to work out words. It has been wonderful to see the children's confidence and enthusiasm continuing to grow.

Around our classroom, we have delved a little deeper into learning about sunflowers. We explored how they grow and what they need to thrive, before being inspired by the beautiful sunflower paintings of Vincent van Gogh. The children created their own wonderful sunflower artwork, each one unique and full of character. We have also greatly enjoyed sharing the story 'Katie and the Sunflowers' by James Mayhew, which sparked lots of discussion and imagination as we explored famous artwork together. One particularly special moment this week was creating a giant sunflower using ourselves! The children lay carefully in position to create the petals, and our perfectly coloured yellow polo shirts made the most wonderful sunflower petals. It was a fantastic way to bring our learning to life and celebrate our sunflower theme together.

It has also been a very busy week as we have been creating special cards and gifts for our dads and special people. The children have taken great pride in their creations and have enjoyed talking about the people who are important to them.

As always, it has been a joy to see the children learning alongside one another, sharing ideas, showing kindness and growing in confidence. Nursery really is a very special place because of the wonderful children who fill it with such warmth and happiness every day.

We are now looking forward to what we hope will be some sunny weather next week and, before that, a weekend of practising our biggest smiles ready for our class photograph on Monday!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend filled with fun, laughter and special family moments.

Warm wishes,

Mrs Grayson and the Nursery team.
