Nursery - Summer 2 Week 3
Date: 17th Jun 2026 @ 8:24pm
Another busy and joyful week in Nursery!
We began the week with smiles as bright as the sunshine as we gathered together for our class photograph. It was lovely to see everyone looking so proud and grown up, and we cannot wait to see the finished photographs and the memories they capture.
After lots of excitement and Sports Day practice, Tuesday brought us a rather disappointing, soggy surprise! Despite Mrs Grayson's best efforts, the field simply wasn't ready for our sporting superstars. The children were incredibly understanding and showed such maturity as we talked about our safety and rearranging our special day. The silver lining is that we now have even more time to practise our sporting skills, cheer one another on and get ourselves race-day ready. We have everything crossed for dry grass next week!
In Phonics, our special friend sound this week was 'g'. The children continue to amaze us with their growing confidence in recalling the sounds they have learned, using Fred Talk and blending sounds together to read simple words. We have also enjoyed exploring rhyming words, which brought lots of laughter as we discovered some very silly words that sound the same.
In Maths, we focused on the concept of the number before. The children worked hard to explain their thinking using mathematical language such as, "___ comes before ___" and showed increasing confidence in understanding number sequences.
This week, we have also spent time thinking about our dads and special father figures. The children were so proud to complete their cards and gifts, taking great care with every detail. We hope these bring lots of smiles this weekend and remind those special people just how much they are loved and appreciated.
Wednesday marked an exciting milestone for some of our children as they enjoyed their first transition visits to Reception. The visits went wonderfully well and there was a real buzz of excitement as the children returned eager to tell us all about their adventures. It is a joy to see their confidence growing as they begin to take these important next steps.
Within our classroom, the children continue to take ownership of their learning and environment. Our much-loved 'Enchanted World' remains open for one final week and has inspired endless imaginative play, storytelling and deep thinking as we pondered together whether unicorns and mermaids might really exist! Meanwhile, our dough area has undergone a transformation as we begin exploring our new topic, 'Under the Sea'. The children quickly decided that blue dough was essential and carefully selected resources to help create their own underwater worlds. Listening to their conversations, ideas and teamwork has been a real highlight of the week.
As always, sharing our news from home remains one of the most special parts of our time together. We have celebrated achievements, listened to exciting stories and shared in all the wonderful moments that make up our Nursery family. These conversations help us learn more about one another and remind us how important every child is within our group.
This week we also had the pleasure of opening our doors to some of our new September starters. It was lovely to welcome them and their families into Nursery, and we are already looking forward to getting to know them and helping them begin their own Nursery adventures.
As the week comes to an end, we would like to wish all of our Dads, Grandads and special father figures a wonderful Sunday. Thank you for the love, encouragement, care and support you give so freely. We hope you enjoy spending time with your little ones and making special memories together.
Have a lovely weekend, and we look forward to seeing everyone next week for more learning, laughter and adventures.
Warm wishes,
Mrs Grayson and the Nursery team.
