What a wonderful week we have had in Nursery!

Monday began with little faces full of excitement as we completed our final Sports Day practice. The children approached every activity with enthusiasm and determination, and by Tuesday they were more than ready to ‘SHINE’. Our sporting stars joined their class friends and they were absolutely amazing! We were so proud of the encouragement they showed one another, their perseverance and the smiles they wore throughout the event. Thank you so much to everyone who was able to join us and support the children. We hope you found it as joyful and special as we did.

To finish our Sports Day celebrations, the children enjoyed a well-earned ice pop and a refreshing cool down for their feet and legs. The paddling pool proved incredibly popular and was certainly appreciated as we all looked for ways to stay cool.

The warm weather has provided us with a wonderful opportunity to talk about how we can look after ourselves when temperatures rise. Together, we created a class visual list with pictures to help us remember the different ways we can stay safe, healthy and comfortable. The children shared lots of fantastic ideas, included drinking plenty of water, finding shade and wearing sun hats outdoors.

Inside, Nursery we have continued our learning with a range of activities from water play where deep-sea divers explored the wonders of marine life, to foamy ‘ice worlds’ where the children carefully pinched and rescued sea creatures, there has been plenty of excitement and exploration.

In Phonics, our special friend sound this week was 'o'. The children continue to impress us with their ability to recall the ten sounds we have learned so far and are showing increasing confidence in blending sounds together. It is wonderful to see their phonics knowledge growing week by week.

In Early Listening, our younger children have been developing their awareness that sentences are made up of individual words. Through fun, active games and activities, they have enjoyed listening carefully and joining in with enthusiasm.

In Maths, the children have demonstrated how well they are recalling previous learning and are beginning to show a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. They have particularly enjoyed using counting and subitising skills to solve real-life mathematical problems through practical, hands-on experiences.

Our ‘Under the Sea’ topic is now fully in swing and has transformed many areas of our classroom. The Maths tuff tray and small world area have become vibrant underwater worlds full of imagination and storytelling. We have even spotted mermaids enjoying afternoon tea and sipping from imaginative goblets of refreshments! The creativity, language and collaboration that have emerged from this play have been a delight to witness.

This week also included our final transition visit to Reception class. The children returned full of excitement and pride, eager to share their experiences and new friends made. Listening to their conversations afterwards was truly heartwarming, and it is lovely to see their confidence grow as they prepare for the next stage of their journey.

What a fantastic week it has been. Filled with learning, laughter and achievement, it has reminded us once again what a very special place Nursery is. It certainly is the best place to be!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend and hoping for slightly cooler temperatures and plenty of opportunities to enjoy time together.

Warm wishes,

Mrs Grayson and the Nursery team
