Another week full of smiles, curiosity and wonderful learning has flown by in Nursery!

In PE this week, we dived beneath the waves for an exciting Under the Sea adventure! The children enjoyed being outside, playing a variety of sea-themed games that encouraged turn-taking, team-work and careful listening. We adapted some of our familiar favourites with an underwater twist, and it was lovely to see the children supporting one another, waiting patiently for their turn and celebrating each other's successes.

In Phonics, our special friend sound this week was 'c'. The children's enthusiasm continues to be infectious, and they are always eager to join in, helping Fred with his Fred Talk as they blend sounds together. Their confidence continues to grow, and it is such a pleasure to watch them becoming increasingly independent in their phonics learning.

In Maths, we have been revisiting many of the mathematical concepts we have explored throughout the year. One of our favourite activities has been 'Guess the Shape', where the children used their knowledge of 2-D shape properties to describe a shape hidden in a bag for their friends to guess. They listened so carefully to one another's clues and demonstrated fantastic mathematical language. The game proved so popular that it has continued throughout our ‘choose time’, with the children eagerly leading it themselves.

This week also brought some very special new visitors to our classroom - ten swirly girlies! Our snails certainly caused great excitement, and the children's delight on discovering them was simply wonderful to see. They have approached our new little friends with such kindness, gentleness and curiosity, carefully observing them and asking thoughtful questions about how we can care for them. Just like our SHINE friends, Buddy and Cuddles, they have reminded us of the importance of showing kindness and respect to all living things. We have learnt some fascinating facts about snails, from the way they carry their homes on their backs to the slimy trail they leave behind. Inspired by our new visitors, the children also enjoyed creating their own beautiful snails, carefully designing colourful spiral shells and talking about the wonderful patterns they could see.

Our Under the Sea theme continues to capture the children's imaginations. This week we took a closer look at the amazing octopus, discovering some fascinating facts about these intelligent sea creatures. The children's curiosity led to some wonderful questions and conversations, and our small world and creative areas continue to be full of imaginative underwater adventures.

Outside, we reached another exciting milestone as we harvested the majority of our crops. This gave us a wonderful opportunity to reflect on everything we have learned about growing. Together, we looked closely at which vegetables had flourished and which had struggled, discussing how sunshine, rain, soil, water and time all play an important part in helping plants grow. The children thoroughly enjoyed the whole process - from carefully lifting the vegetables from the soil, cutting off the tops, sorting which parts we could eat, washing them and finally tasting the fruits of our hard work. It was a lovely reminder that learning is often at its best when we can experience it with our own hands.

Another amazing highlight of our week was a very exciting surprise - when a real Formula 4 racing car arrived at school! The children were so excited to be able to explore the car up close, asking lots of thoughtful questions and noticing all its fascinating features. It certainly created a real buzz of excitement between children and staff alike!

As we continue to make the most of these final weeks together, we are reminded each day just how much the children have grown in confidence, kindness and independence. Their curiosity, imagination and enthusiasm for learning continue to make every day in Nursery a special one.

What a fantastic week it has been! We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and look forward to another week filled with smiles, laughter and exciting new discoveries.

Warm wishes,

Mrs Grayson and the Nursery team
