Nursery - Summer 2 Week 6
Date: 9th Jul 2026 @ 9:41pm
What an exciting and memory-filled week it has been in Nursery!
Our week began with one very important question... "How many sleeps until our class trip to The Young Explorers Club?" On Monday we eagerly discovered there were just two sleeps left to go! The excitement was almost too much to contain, and we had great fun creating our own itinerary as we talked about how to prepare for such a special adventure.
After all that excitement, for PE we decided to take part in a wonderful ‘Under the Sea’ yoga session. The children embraced every movement with such enthusiasm that it quickly became a firm favourite, and we found ourselves returning to yoga several times throughout the week. It has been lovely to see how these quieter moments help us relax, focus and prepare our minds for learning.
We also had a very exciting mystery to solve! Our much-loved class octopus, ‘Octo’, had left us a letter asking for our help to find one of his family members. Armed with a series of clues, we listened carefully to the song ‘In an Octopus's Garden’, using the words to guide our search. Our detective skills certainly paid off as we successfully found Octo's missing family member! Along the way, we also discovered some of his underwater friends, including a turtle and a seahorse, which sparked even more excitement and curiosity as we continued our ‘Under the Sea’ learning.
In Phonics, our special friend sound this week was 'k'. We compared 'c' and 'k', discovering just how tricky it can be to decide which sound belongs at the beginning of different words! The children worked incredibly hard, using their growing phonics knowledge to explain their thinking and becoming more confident with every challenge.
Continuing our 'Under the Sea' learning, we shared the beautiful story ‘The Rainbow Fish’ by Marcus Pfister. The shimmering scales captured everyone's imagination and led to some thoughtful conversations. We wondered why the Rainbow Fish chose to share his beautiful scales, how doing something kind made him feel, how it made others feel, and how acts of kindness and generosity help us to serve God and care for those around us. Linking to our SHINE friends, in particular Buddy, the children's reflections were simply heartwarming.
What a treat this week has been - s'mores twice in one week! On Tuesday, our Forest School session saw us gathered around the fire making delicious s'mores together. A huge thank you to Mrs Bevin for leading such a wonderful experience, allowing both Nursery and Reception to enjoy one of our favourite Forest School activities.
Then came the day we had all been waiting for – our visit to The Young Explorers Club! The excitement on the journey there was matched only by the joy on the children's faces throughout the day. Entering the woodland felt truly magical and enchanting, and every aspect of the setting filled the children with wonder and awe. Taking part in den building, bug hunting, flower hammering, meeting the dinosaurs and embracing new adventures led us to the perfect ending: enjoying even more chocolatey s'mores around the fire. The day was everything we had hoped for and so much more. The long wait was certainly worthwhile, and it truly did not disappoint! A huge thank you to Amelia and Sam for their warm hospitality in such a wonderful and special place. A very special thank you also goes to Mrs Appleton, who kindly transported us, gave up her time and helped make our adventure possible. We are incredibly grateful for your support.
To round off such a wonderful week, we enjoyed the school's annual TSP ‘Summer Fair’. It was lovely to see our school community come together, sharing smiles, laughter and making happy memories. A huge thank you to ‘Team TSP’ for giving up their time to organise such a special event. It really was a wonderful celebration of our school family.
What a fabulous week it has been! And, as we prepare to begin our penultimate week together, I can hardly believe how quickly this school year has flown by. If I could press pause on time for just a little while longer, I certainly would!
Wishing you all a weekend filled with rest, family time, sweet dreams... and perhaps just a little time washing away the lingering bonfire aromas! We can't wait to see everyone next week for another week of adventures together.
