Reception - Autumn 1 - Week 3

What a wonderful week we have planned in Reception as we continue our "All About Me" topic! The children are becoming more confident in their new classroom routines and we are looking forward to exploring what makes each of us special and unique.
Throughout the week we shared some lovely stories including Only One You, The Dot, The Colour Monster and Our Class is a Family. These books helped us talk about our feelings, celebrate our individuality and learn more about the importance of kindness and friendship.
In RE, we continued with our theme ‘ Why we are all different and Special’ we learnt that God loves us all and discussing the many people who care for us. The children enjoyed using their thumbprints to create a special craft to remind them that they are loved and valued.
On Tuesday, we celebrated International Dot Day. Inspired by the book The Dot, the children enjoyed creating their own dot artwork using a variety of materials, exploring colours, patterns and different ways of making marks. They also took part in a skipping event, making it an exciting and active day for everyone.
In phonics, we continued with our Read Write Inc. learning by introducing the sounds i, n, p, g and o. The children practices recognising the sounds, forming the letters correctly and beginning to blend sounds together to read simple words.
In maths, we have been learning how to sort, match and compare objects. Through practical activities and games, the children explored how objects can be grouped by their similarities and differences, using mathematical language to explain their thinking.
Our continuous provision areas provided lots of opportunities for the children to talk about their families, homes and themselves. They enjoyed creating family portraits, making dot paintings, building with blocks, exploring the dolls' house and creating family groups using natural materials. These activities will encourage conversation, creativity and imaginative play.
Thank you for your continued support as the children settle into Reception life. We are incredibly proud of how well they are adapting to new routines, making new friends and developing their independence. We can't wait to see all the wonderful learning next week will bring!
