Reception - Autumn 1 Week 5
Date: 29th Sep 2026 @ 3:21pm

What a wonderful week we have had in Reception!
We started the week learning about Harvest and thinking about why this is such a special time of year. The children have enjoyed exploring autumn treasures, talking about seasonal changes and learning where some of our favourite fruits and vegetables come from. We also spent time practicing for our very first WOW service. We were incredibly proud of some of our Reception children who read prayers during the service. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
Throughout the week, we have explored harvest-themed activities in our provision areas. The children have enjoyed role-playing in the farm shop, using the small world Farm and exploring Autumn treasures. We have also continued to develop our maths skills by comparing size, weight and capacity through practical activities and investigations.
As part of Hello Yellow Day, we focused on the importance of talking about our feelings and looking after our mental wellbeing. We shared the beautiful story In My Heart, which helped us explore a range of emotions and understand that everyone experiences different feelings. The children enjoyed discussing times when they have felt happy, excited, worried or sad and talking about colours that reminded them of different emotions. They then created their own hearts to represent how they were feeling, encouraging thoughtful conversations and helping us learn more about ourselves and each other.
In phonics, we have continued learning new sounds and practising our blending skills. The children are working hard to recognise and form letters correctly and are becoming increasingly confident at reading simple words.
We have also enjoyed spending time outdoors, taking part in Forest School activities, collecting autumn treasures and investigating the changing season around us.
Thank you for your continued support.
