What a wonderful final week of our first half term in Reception! We can hardly believe how quickly the weeks have flown by. It has been a busy and exciting start to the school year, and we are incredibly proud of how well the children have settled into school life, developed their independence and built such positive friendships with one another.

This week, our learning focused on Autumn and Owls. The children enjoyed sharing the story Owl Babies and retelling the events using our small world provision. They loved discussing owl facts, learning that owls are nocturnal and talking about how animal babies are cared for by their parents.

In our creative area, the children carefully made their own owl pictures and family portraits, while our playdough area encouraged them to strengthen their finger muscles by creating autumn leaves. We have also been developing our early reading and writing skills in phonics, learning new sounds and practising blending and segmenting words.

In Maths, we explored the concepts of one more, one less and different ways to make numbers to three through songs, stories and practical activities. The children have shown fantastic enthusiasm and growing confidence when recognising and working with numbers.

We also celebrated Alder Hey Pyjama Day, a special event that gave us the opportunity to talk about hospitals and the important work they do. The children shared their own experiences of visiting hospitals and showed great empathy and understanding. It was a lovely way to end the half term, all cosy in our pyjamas and full of kindness.

As we reach the end of our first half term, we would like to say a huge thank you to all our families for your support. Your encouragement at home, whether practising sounds, sharing stories or talking about learning, has made a real difference. Together, we have helped the children make an excellent start to their Reception journey.

Most importantly, we are so proud of the kindness, resilience and enthusiasm the children have shown. They have worked hard, embraced new experiences and formed caring relationships with their classmates and staff. Watching their confidence grow over the past few weeks has been a joy.

We hope you all enjoy a well-deserved half-term break and have the opportunity to spend some special time together as a family. We look forward to welcoming the children back after the holiday for another exciting half term filled with learning, friendship and fun.

Please see our updated virtual classroom attached to this blog if you would like to explore any of the themes we will be exploring after the half term.

Have a wonderful half term and thank you for all your continued support.
