What a busy and exciting week we have had in Reception! Our learning has been centred around owls and autumn, and the children have enjoyed discovering fascinating facts about these amazing nocturnal birds. We shared the story Owl Babies, retold the events through play, created beautiful owl crafts and explored signs of autumn both in the classroom and during our outdoor learning.

In phonics, we continued learning new sounds and practised blending and reading simple words. In maths, we explored different representations of the numbers 1, 2 and 3, developing our counting and subitising skills through practical games and activities.

We also enjoyed our special Afternoon Tea with our buddies, which gave the children a wonderful opportunity to spend time with older pupils and build new friendships.

On Thursday, we took part in a Godly Play session where we listened to and reflected on the Bible story of The Feeding of the 5,000. The children thought carefully about the themes of sharing, kindness and trusting in God. They enjoyed exploring the story through discussion and wondering together about its meaning.

This week also marked Hate Crime Awareness Week, which provided valuable opportunities to celebrate the diversity within our school and wider community. We talked about treating everyone with kindness and respect, revisited our school behaviour expectations and British Values, and discussed how our differences make us special. These conversations linked well with our recent Hello Yellow Day, helping the children develop an understanding of inclusion, mental wellbeing and respect for others.

On Friday, the children proudly wore red to support Show Racism the Red Card. It was wonderful to see everyone taking part and helping to spread the important message that racism has no place in our school or community.

We are incredibly proud of how well the children have engaged with their learning this week and the thoughtful contributions they made during our discussions. Have a lovely weekend!
