Reception - Spring 2 - Week 5
Date: 24th Mar 2026 @ 2:05pm

Wow – can you believe we are at the Easter holidays already?
The spring term has absolutely flown by, and what a wonderful few weeks we have had together. A particular highlight has been our Easter Bonnet Parade. The children looked amazing in their beautifully decorated hats, and they sang so confidently and beautifully in church. Thank you to everyone who attended and for supporting the children with their bonnet designs – your creativity and enthusiasm really shone through.
We began the week exploring an Easter-themed basket of objects to spark discussion and curiosity. This encouraged the children to share what they already knew about Easter, ask thoughtful questions, and talk about their own family traditions. We had some fantastic conversations!
Throughout the week, we learned about the significance of Easter and took part in a range of themed activities, including making cards, biscuits, decorations and we even had a visit from the Easter Bunny Himself. We were also delighted to welcome Caroline from the Archdiocese for a session of Godly Play. She told the Easter story using visuals and props, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. They listened beautifully and asked lots of insightful questions.
In Phonics, we have spent time consolidating our previous learning and continuing to develop our early reading skills.
In Maths, the children expanded their understanding of odd and even numbers, building on their earlier explorations of doubling and recognising number patterns up to 10 in different contexts. We also continued our work on 3D shapes, learning to recognise and name cubes, cuboids, cylinders, pyramids, cones and spheres. The children explored the differences between 2D and 3D shapes and developed their understanding of the properties of solid shapes through handson activities and careful modelling of vocabulary.
Please see our updated virtual classroom attached to this blog if you would like to explore any of the themes we will be exploring after the half term.
We hope you all have a lovely Easter break, filled with rest and family time. We look forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday 13th April.
Happy Easter!
