Reception - Summer 2 - Week 4
Date: 24th Jun 2026 @ 7:15pm

Wow – another wonderful week in Reception!
In RE, we have been thinking about ‘Special Times’. The children have spent time reflecting on their year in Reception and all of the special moments we have shared together. It has been lovely to hear them talk about the memories that are important to them and that they will carry with them. We will be using these thoughts and ideas as we begin to plan for our final Wow service of the year.
On Tuesday, the children truly impressed us with their sporting skills as they took part in Sports Day. It was wonderful to see so many parents there to support and cheer the children on – your encouragement meant so much. The children were thrilled to receive an ice lolly from Team TSP afterwards to celebrate their fantastic effort.
We are continuing to practise our handwriting and letter formation alongside our phonics sessions. The children are showing increasing confidence and pride in their writing, which is fantastic to see.
In Maths, the children have been consolidating and practising key skills, including adding and subtracting. They have also been developing their understanding of the composition of number and have enjoyed exploring problems where there are many possible answers. Alongside this, we have been practising recognising odd and even numbers, as well as comparing and ordering quantities.
As part of our ‘Superheroes’ theme, the children have been thinking about what their own superpower might be. They have enjoyed sharing their ideas with the group and explaining how they would use their special powers to help others – we have heard some wonderfully imaginative responses!
In our Knowledge and Understanding of the World learning, the children have been exploring different types of boats. We compared a variety of vessels, including container ships that transport food across the world and cruise ships that people travel on for holidays. The children were particularly interested in learning about the Queen Mary 2, and we even discussed pirates and how they used boats many years ago! Over the next couple of weeks, the children will be designing and making their own boats – we are very excited to see their creations and will be keeping our fingers crossed that they float!
We hope you all have a fabulous weekend.
