This week has absolutely flown by, and what a busy and exciting week we have had! The children have continued to enjoy learning new things while having lots of fun along the way.

In RE, we have been continuing our learning about prayer. This week, the children learnt how they can use the fingers on their hands to help them pray. For example, the thumb is closest to your body, so we might choose to pray for someone close to us. We have also continued to learn The Lord’s Prayer, and it has been lovely to see the children becoming more confident with this.

In phonics, we are continuing to practise our sounds and reading, and the children are making fantastic progress – we are so proud of them! Alongside this, we are working really hard on our handwriting, focusing on forming our letters correctly.

In Maths, we have been exploring how things can look from different perspectives. This can be quite a new concept for some children, so we have been taking lots of time to explore this through play, both indoors and outdoors. The children have been learning to describe positions using positional language and are beginning to talk about what they can see from different viewpoints. They have also been using these skills to give and follow instructions when building models, helping them to understand how important clear instructions are. You might notice them explaining how they have built something or giving very specific directions as they play!

We were also very excited for our class trip on Wednesday when we visited Martin Mere Wetland Centre. The children loved the coach journey and were full of excitement when we arrived. We spent time exploring and seeing different animals, including flamingos and otters, before enjoying the play area. After lunch, we took part in a mini-beast safari in Plum Wood, where the children searched for a range of mini-beasts. This was followed by pond dipping, where we discovered lots of fascinating water creatures. The children had such an amazing time – it really was a wonderful experience for them. We were incredibly proud of their behaviour throughout the day, and the staff at Martin Mere commented on how well they conducted themselves. It was truly a special day to remember!

Back in school, we have continued to develop our football skills and have been learning about the World Cup. Each child now has a team to follow throughout the competition – we are all very excited to see who the winner will be!

We have also been exploring different materials to develop our understanding of what “waterproof” means. The children tested a variety of materials and discussed why waterproof materials are important in everyday life.

Wow – what a very busy week it has been! We hope you all have some time to rest and recharge before another fun-packed week ahead.
