Year 1 - Summer 1 - Week 5

Date: 14th May 2026 @ 12:12pm

In Maths this week, our learning focused on the 2s, 5s and 10s times tables. The children enjoyed using fun songs and interactive games to help them practise reciting their tables with confidence. They showed great enthusiasm and determination, eagerly challenging themselves to beat their previous scores each time. It has been wonderful to see their growing confidence and motivation as they continue to develop their multiplication skills.

In English, the children put their writing skills to the test by completing an independent write, giving them the opportunity to show how much they have learned this term. They focused on using and to join phrases, applying the prefix un- to change the meaning of words, and using exclamation marks to add expression and excitement to their sentences. The children worked hard and were very proud of their writing, producing some fantastic pieces.

In Geography, we explored where we live in more detail, focusing on addresses and our local area. The children enjoyed discussing their own addresses and learning about why they are important. This helped to deepen their understanding of their local community and how places are organised.

We also enjoyed lots of mindfulness this week during our yoga sessions. The children practised their favourite poses and focused on breathing and relaxation. These sessions helped to create a calm and positive atmosphere, supporting the children’s wellbeing alongside their learning.

Art was a real highlight this week as the children had the opportunity to use LEGO to create pieces of art. They explored primary colours and created abstract designs, using the backs of LEGO bricks to add texture and pattern to their work. The children were incredibly creative and loved experimenting with different techniques.

Well done to everyone for another brilliant week of learning. Have a lovely weekend, and thank you as always for your continued support.
