Year 1 - Summer 1 - Week 6
Date: 20th May 2026 @ 1:06pm
This week has been full of exciting new learning, thoughtful discussions and a wonderfully calm atmosphere in our classroom.
In Maths, we began learning all about time. The children were so excited to start telling the time, and it was lovely to see some children eager to share their prior knowledge. We explored what time means in our daily lives and began to look at o’clock times. We also introduced fractions, focusing on halves and quarters. We discussed the ideas of sharing, grouping and making things equal, and the children enjoyed exploring this with practical resources. It was fantastic to see them beginning to understand these important concepts so confidently.
In PSHE, we had a very special RSE week, where we explored a range of important topics. We had thoughtful discussions about stereotyping and explored how boys and girls can enjoy the same things. The children were really respectful and open-minded during these conversations. We also learned about different types of families and how all families can look different, but are built on the same unconditional love and care. The children showed such maturity and kindness when sharing their ideas, and we were very proud of them.
In PE, we continued with our yoga sessions, which we are all thoroughly enjoying. The children are really embracing the calm and mindful atmosphere, and it has been wonderful to see the positive impact this is having in the classroom. They are becoming more focused, relaxed and ready to learn, making it a truly special part of our week.
Well done, Year 1. You have all worked incredibly hard this half term, and we are so proud of everything you have achieved.
I hope you all have a lovely and restful half term, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
