We have had a wonderful first full week together, packed with lots of exciting learning and opportunities to challenge ourselves. The children have settled brilliantly into their new routines and have shown great enthusiasm, independence and determination in everything they have done. I am so proud of how well everyone has embraced the challenges of Year 2 so far!

In Maths this week, our learning focused on place value. Our star vocabulary was tens and ones, and we used place value charts to help us understand how numbers to 100 are made up. The children explored different numbers, identifying how many tens and ones each number contained and using practical resources to represent them. We also completed lots of problem-solving activities, carefully unpicking questions and thinking critically about different ways to find the answers. The children rose brilliantly to the challenge, showing resilience and developing their reasoning skills as they explained their thinking.

In English, we started our new class story, Leo and the Octopus. We have absolutely loved exploring the characters and settings, making predictions and sharing our ideas about the story. Alongside this, we focused on spelling and grammar, learning how the prefix un- can be added to words to change their meaning. We also explored adding the suffix -est to words to enhance their meaning and compare things. The children worked hard to apply this new learning, and we look forward to practising these skills even more throughout the term.

In RE this week, we began our new topic, The Bible. We learned about what the Bible is and why it is such an important book for Christians. The children explored different Bibles from the past and present, discussing similarities and differences between them. We also learned about the Old Testament and the New Testament, beginning to understand how the Bible is organised and why it continues to guide Christians today.

Without a doubt, the highlight of our week has been our Reading Festival celebrations! We have had so much fun sharing our love of reading in a variety of exciting ways. The children loved visiting the Book Fair and creating wish lists filled with their favourite discoveries. They also designed their own unique bookmarks, showcasing plenty of creativity and personal flair. The greatest highlight of all was visiting the outdoor reading tent and taking part in a reading treasure hunt. It was wonderful to see the children so excited about books and stories, and the week has certainly inspired lots of enthusiastic readers.

Well done, Year 2, for such an amazing week! You have shown fantastic effort, enthusiasm and a real eagerness to learn. Have a lovely weekend, and thank you for your continued support. We are looking forward to another exciting week ahead!
