This week in Year 2, we have continued to show fantastic determination, resilience and enthusiasm in all of our learning. We have worked incredibly hard and should be very proud of everything we have achieved!

In Maths, we spent the week learning a brand-new method for adding two-digit numbers using column addition. We worked extremely hard to understand lots of new mathematical vocabulary and developed our presentation skills as we learned how to set out our calculations carefully and neatly. At first, some parts felt tricky, but we never gave up! By the end of the week, we were amazed by how much progress we had made. It really showed us how our school value of Hope shines through all that we do. We were determined to master column addition and kept persevering, even when we found it challenging. We have also been recapping our 2 times tables and have learnt a new song to help us remember them. We have loved singing it in class and would love to show you at home!

In English, we explored more of the features used within our text. We looked at how authors use questions to make the reader think and become more engaged in the story. Our main focus this week was learning how to use apostrophes for possession. We worked together to write sentences and then used our own ideas to create examples independently. We have become much more confident at spotting and using apostrophes correctly in our writing.

In RE, we discovered the fascinating story of the Dead Sea Scrolls. We were amazed to learn that these very special artefacts were discovered inside caves near the Dead Sea over 70 years ago. We explored why the scrolls are so important and how they helped people learn more about ancient copies of books from the Old Testament. We discussed how carefully they had been preserved for thousands of years and why their discovery was such an important moment for historians and people of faith. We were captivated by the story and asked lots of thoughtful questions throughout our learning.

In Science, we continued our learning about animals, including humans, by exploring the five main food groups. We learned about fruit and vegetables, carbohydrates, proteins, dairy, and oils and spreads. We discussed how each food group helps our bodies in different ways and why it is important to eat a balanced diet to stay healthy. We sorted foods into different groups and thought about the choices we make each day. We discovered that our bodies need a range of nutrients to help us grow, stay active and keep our minds and bodies healthy.

We have had another wonderful week of learning and have shown excellent attitudes towards our work. It has been fantastic to see everyone challenging themselves, supporting one another and celebrating their achievements along the way.

Reminders: • PE days are Monday and Tuesday.
