Year 2 - Autumn 1 - Week 7
Date: 14th Oct 2026 @ 4:48pm
We have had another fantastic week in Year 2, filled with creativity, new challenges and lots of opportunities to build on our learning. It has been wonderful to see how confidently the children are settling into Year 2 and becoming increasingly independent in everything they do.
In English this week, we became authors and began writing our very own stories! Using the plans we created last week, the children carefully developed their ideas into full sentences and started bringing their stories to life. It has been fantastic to see them independently applying so many of the skills we have been practising, including apostrophes, expanded noun phrases and questions. The children have shown brilliant creativity and have worked hard to make their writing interesting and engaging for the reader. We have been incredibly proud of their determination and enthusiasm.
In Maths, we continued developing our understanding of place value, making important connections between our new Year 2 learning and everything we learned in Year 1. We explored number patterns and used familiar rhymes, songs and chants to help us remember key facts and develop our fluency. The children have shown great confidence when recalling their previous learning and using it to support them with new challenges.
In RE, we were very lucky to welcome Lily into our classroom to talk to us about how the Bible is used in church. She shared photographs from church and showed us a variety of different Bibles, helping us to understand that although Bibles can look very different, they all have an important role within Christian worship. We especially loved comparing Lily’s giant Bible with her tiny Bible! The children listened brilliantly and asked some fantastic questions.
In PE this week, we continued learning about the importance of winning and losing positively. In just a short time, the children have made fantastic progress in learning how to manage disappointment, show good sportsmanship and, most importantly, get themselves straight back into the game! We also enjoyed another skipping lesson, building on the skills we learned with Dan the Skipping Man. We were so impressed with how much the children have improved, and it was wonderful to hear that so many have been practising their skipping skills at home too.
In Art, we let our creativity shine as we designed and created our very own maps. The children enjoyed experimenting with crayons, pencils and different ideas to make their maps unique. It was lovely to see everyone using their imagination and adding their own personal touches to their creations.
Well done, Year 2, for another brilliant week!
