We have had another fantastic week in Year 2 and a wonderful end to our first half term. It has been lovely to see how much confidence and independence the children have developed already. We are incredibly proud of how hard everyone has worked and the enthusiasm they continue to show.

In Maths this week, we focused on fact families, consolidating our learning from Year 1 and building our confidence working more independently. We explored how addition and subtraction facts are connected and used our knowledge of number facts to recognise familiar patterns. We also investigated related facts, using what we already know to help us solve new calculations. With plenty of practice, the children became much more confident and fluent in their learning.

In English, we completed our first narrative of Year 2! We worked carefully over several days, using our plans to develop our ideas and focusing on producing quality work rather than rushing. It was fantastic to see the children taking pride in their writing and independently using so many of the skills we have practised this half term.

In RE, we reflected on our learning about The Bible and discussed our favourite moments from the topic, including hearing Lily talk to us about how the Bible is used in church. We created circle maps to showcase everything we have learned about the Bible and why it is such a special book for Christians.

In PE, we had great fun playing Monster Mash Dodgeball! It was wonderful to see everyone getting involved and having a go. We have worked particularly hard this half term on managing disappointment when we lose, showing good sportsmanship and getting ourselves back into the game. The progress the children have made has been fantastic!

In Art, we continued our map-making learning by creating collage-style maps. We experimented with cellophane and a variety of materials to add colour, layers and texture to our artwork. The finished pieces were wonderfully creative and unique.

Our highlight this week was our super cosy PJ Day, celebrating Alder Hey and the fantastic work they do. We discussed why we celebrate this special day in school, and the children shared some incredibly thoughtful ideas. It has been wonderful to see how much their confidence and maturity during class discussions have grown.

Well done, Year 2, for an amazing first half term! I am incredibly proud of all your hard work, determination and kindness. Enjoy a very well-deserved week off with your families, and we cannot wait to welcome you back for another exciting half term!
