Year 2 - Spring 2 - Week 5

Date: 25th Mar 2026 @ 7:16pm

And just like that, Spring Term draws to an end! What a fantastic term it has been.

In English, the children wrapped up their work on our story, 'Major Glad and Major Dizzy'. Using their imagination, images from the book and clips from Youtube, the children transported themselves back to the Blitz taking on the character of Major Glad. Here, they wrote about their experience, under the floorboards, in the form of a Diary. Ensuring that they were writing in the right tense, the children wrote diary entry's packed full of information, adjectives and conjunctions. Next term, the children will move onto our next imaginative text, watch this space for the new title!

In Maths, the children finished off their topic on Measurement focusing on capacity and volume. They worked hard to read the volume of given liquids to the nearest mililitires. After half term, the children will be recapping addition and subtraction. Here, we will revisit adding single digit numbers to two digit numbers before moving onto two digit numbers to two digit numbers.

In Science, we completed a series of expriements this term, with our favouirte being watching our cress grow. This week, we studied the results of our experiment and found that the cress that was placed in the cupboard did not grow as successfully as the cress that was put in the windows.

In DT, we concluded our topic by creating our own ferris wheels. Using bottles and boxes as frames, we placed our axles in the axle holders before creating our pods out of card. The children worked hardto create the differnet steps in order to make it function. After, they were allowed to decorate their Ferris wheels.

In RE we finished off our topic on important symbols. We focused on symbols that are currently around us, inculding hot cross buns. We agreed that the cross was the most important symbol as this symbolised Christ sacraficing himself to forgive our sins!

We loved watching our peers this week as they prefomed in Rocksteady. We are incredibly proud of all of our bandmates! As well as this we were delighted to get a visit from the hip-hoppity Easter Bunny, a fabulous treat for us all!

We hope you all have a wonderful, restful half term break. We cannot wait to hear all about it.
