Year 2 -Summer 1 - Week 1

Date: 16th Apr 2026 @ 8:11pm

And just like that, we are into the summer term!

This week, we have worked hard on cementing our number knowledge in terms of Place Value. Using a range of practical and pictorial resources, we focused on partitioning two digit numbers into tens and ones and flexibly into a range of numbers. The children worked hard to understand how larger numbers are made up. Next week, we will move onto numbers bonds within 100, using our understanding from this week to solve, and check, addition and subtraction sentences.

In English, we looked at a new story, 'The River'. Using just the images this week, we have taken ourselves on a journey, taking on the persona of the main character, as young boy. We predicted where he would end up and discussed why he would get there. After, we focused on describing the different scenes, using the suffixes -er and -est, we described the different settings in the book. At the end of the week, we created our own alliteration poems, a trickier concept than we thought, who knew finding words to go with 'leaves' would be so hard?

In our Reading lessons this week, we looked at 'The Sea Book'. Here, we looked at retrieving infromation from the text. To help us, we focused on identifying words in the text that we needed to look for before finding them and circling the facts surrounding it. This skill is an important one to develop and we will continue to focus on this in the coming weeks.

We started our new Art topic this week too, 'Clay Houses'. In preparation for creating our model, we first focused on manipulating the clay. We used a range of tools and resources to make impressions, mould and create. We learnt that warming up the material helped us create different forms easier.

In PE we started two new topic, Net and Wall games, and Gymnastics. Over the coming weeks we develop our skills in both areas, but both seem to be topics of interest to the children!

Have a wonderful weekend, we will see you all on Monday!
