Year 2 - Summer 1 - Week 2

Date: 22nd Apr 2026 @ 2:39pm

What a fantastic week of fun in the sun we have had!

This week in Maths, we have continued to embed our number knowledge and have been working hard on estimating on a numberline. This proved difficult for some, as we had to first work out the intergers of the numbers. After a few outdoor sessions, we cracked it! After, we focused on Addition and Subtraction, and honed in on our number bonds. Next week, we will continue with this topic, and will focus on subtraction acorss 10 and also 2-digit numbers from 2-digit numbers.

In English, we have continued with our story 'Rivers'. We focused on developing our sentence structure using a range of literacy features including, alliteration and adverbs. We looked at how the use of exciting vocabulary can make our writing more exciting. Next week, we will continue to develop out literacy skills and will work towards a creative writing piece.

In Geography, we have been looking at the seaside and coasts. We focused on identify human and physical features of the coast, before comparing Formby beach to a becach in Cornwall. We noticed how one was sandm whilst the other was pebbles! Next week, we will continue to look human features in more detail.

In Art, we focused on working with clay. We looked at how we can again, manipulate the material, before begininng to form different shapes with the material. OVer the next few weeks we will be looking to make our own clays pots, watch this space!

In PE, we looked at our gymnastic topic. We focused on balances, connecting out learning back to Year 1, before looking at how different shapes flow. We then worked hard to develop a story without our balances, focusing on holding them for a given time, before moving on.
