Year 2 - Summer 1 - Week 3

Date: 29th Apr 2026 @ 9:39am

We have had a fantastic week in Year 2, full of laughter, sunshine and fun!

The children have worked really hard this week across all their subjects but especially Maths. Here, we recapped Addition and Subtraction, focusing on related number facts to solve harder sums. For example, addition to 100 using our number bonds to 10! The children moved on to adding number across 10, and looked again, at how they could first make 10 before adding more. This was a hard concept, but the worked extremely hard. Next week, we will continue to look at Addition and Subtraction looking to 2-digit numbers.

In English, the children have worked hard to plan a retell of our vehicle text, and have used images and phrases to prepare themselves. At the end of the week, they began to write. We focused as a class on ensuring we included a range of literacy features from adjectives, to conjunctions as well as ensuring that they have the usual capital letters, finger spaces and punctuation. Next week, they will finish their rewrite and will look at how we can edit to improve.

In RE, we focused on looking inside the Church. We looked specially at the features and the importance of their roles such as the font and alter. After, we chose what we thought was the most important feature and explained why.

For Art, we finished out decorating our pots, which proved to be trickier than we first thought. We added a range of colour to make them more personalised but realised just how fragile the clay can be. We reflected on this, and carried out a review, focusing on what would do differently next time. Next week, the children will continue to practise their skills before starting to make their final product, a house tile.

As always, outdoor learning was a hit, and we used this lesson to look at the plants and trees that we have on our grounds. We went on a scavenger hunt to collect different leaves before exploring how they were the same and different. We ended with some games, the perfect end to a sunny day!

We hope you have a wonderful bank holiday weekend and we will see all your happy faces on Tuesday!
