Year 2 - Summer 1 - Week 6

Date: 17th May 2026 @ 8:43pm

We have reached the final week of term, and what a fantastic week it has been in Year 2!

In English, we have continued to focus on SPaG, with a particular emphasis on developing our understanding of assessment-style questions. The children have been working hard to carefully read questions and think about how to apply their knowledge of grammar, punctuation and sentence structure. It has been great to see their confidence growing as they tackle these tasks more independently.

In Maths, we have continued our learning on Multiplication and Division. The children explored the multiplication sign and developed their understanding of multiplication as repeated addition. We also focused on division through sharing, using practical resources to help us split amounts into equal groups. The children showed great enthusiasm and are beginning to build a secure understanding of these key concepts.

In Geography, the children created their own maps before heading outside for an adventure around the field. They used their maps to guide their journey, thinking carefully about key features and directions. This was a fun and interactive way to apply their learning, and the children thoroughly enjoyed exploring their environment.

In PSHE, we focused on our RSE learning. We began by linking our learning back to Year 1, before learning about the basic differences between male and female bodies using correct vocabulary in a sensitive and age-appropriate way. We also discussed the difference between secrets and surprises, helping the children understand when it is important to share information with a trusted adult.

In Art, the children created their own clay tiles based on their house designs. They worked carefully to shape and mould the clay, showing patience and creativity as they brought their ideas to life. It has been wonderful to see their designs develop from initial sketches into finished pieces.

We hope you all have a lovely and restful half-term break, and we look forward to welcoming the children back refreshed and ready for more learning.
