Year 2 - Summer 2 - Week 1

Date: 8th Jun 2026 @ 2:14pm

It has been lovely to welcome the children back to school for our final half term of the year! We have had a busy and positive start, with lots of exciting learning taking place across the curriculum.

In English, we have been focusing on a range of SPaG objectives. The children have worked hard to develop their understanding of adverbs, expanded noun phrases and adjectives. They have practised identifying these features and using them in their own sentences, building confidence in their writing skills.

In Maths, we have been exploring a range of topics, including fractions, division and word problems. A particular focus has been on solving division word problems, where the children have been using their knowledge of sharing and grouping to find solutions. They have shown great determination when working through these problems.

In DT, we started our new topic, Moving Monsters. The children practised making simple mechanisms, including levers and hinges, using split pins. They enjoyed experimenting with how parts can move and are excited to begin creating their own moving designs.

In PE, we have been focusing on athletics. The children have been developing their running techniques, helping them to build stamina and improve their style in preparation for Sports Day.

In History, we explored artefacts from the past, focusing on seaside holidays in the Victorian era. The children looked at paintings and photographs and compared them to what the seaside is like today. To finish, they created postcards explaining what a seaside trip in the past might have been like, which they thoroughly enjoyed.

In Guided Reading, we began reading our new fantasy texts. The children have started to develop their comprehension skills using these engaging stories, and it has been great to see their enthusiasm for reading.

Alongside our lessons, the children have also been completing some assessments this week. They have all worked incredibly hard, shown resilience and should be very proud of their efforts.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend, and we look forward to another great week ahead!
