Year 2 - Summer 2 - Week 2
Date: 12th Jun 2026 @ 4:14pm
We have had another busy and enjoyable week in Year 2, with lots of exciting learning taking place across the curriculum!
In PE, we have been practising for Sports Day. The children took part in a range of races including the sack race, three-legged race and running race. They worked incredibly well with their partners, showing great teamwork, encouragement and determination. It has been lovely to see their confidence grow as they prepare for the big day.
In Science, we explored how plants grow. The children gathered resources such as pots, soil, water and seeds before carefully planting them. They thought like scientists by making predictions about how long it might take for their plants to grow. We are looking forward to observing these over time and seeing how they develop.
In RE, we learned about Pentecost and discussed the meaning of the word in relation to Jesus and the Church. The children explored why Pentecost is important to Christians and shared some thoughtful ideas during our discussions.
In DT, we continued our work on mechanisms, focusing on levers and pivots. Using split pins, the children created their own moving pictures. They showed great creativity and enjoyed experimenting with how different parts could move.
In English, we made predictions about what might happen when the King took away the darkness and how the people might feel. The children explored this through discussions and recorded their ideas using pros and cons, showing a developing understanding of different viewpoints.
In Maths, we continued our work on fractions and also completed our maths assessments. The children worked incredibly hard and showed great focus and perseverance throughout.
In Guided Reading, we have continued to develop our retrieval skills. The children practised identifying key words in questions before finding the answers in the text, helping them to become more confident and independent readers.
