Year 2 - Summer 2 - Week 4
Date: 28th Jun 2026 @ 10:54pm
We have had another busy and enjoyable week in Year 2, with lots of fantastic learning taking place across the curriculum!
In English, we continued working on our story about the King who took away the dark. At the start of the week, the children began writing persuasive letters to the King, arguing why he should bring the darkness back. They carefully planned their ideas by breaking down the structure of a letter, thinking about how to justify their reasons clearly. The children also practised using rhetorical questions to strengthen their arguments and engage the reader. Next week, they will continue writing their letters and begin editing their work to make improvements.
In Maths, the children completed their unit on fractions. We began by revisiting and securing our understanding of what fractions represent before moving on to solving fractions of quantities, including halves and thirds. The children worked hard to apply their knowledge and showed growing confidence when solving these problems independently.
In Art, we continued developing our Moving Monsters topic. The children explored levers and hinges further and began refining their mechanism ideas. Using lollipop sticks, they carefully planned where their hinges would go, helping them to think about how their final designs will move effectively.
On Thursday, we had a fantastic morning meeting Mrs Watkinson, our new Year 3 teacher. The children loved exploring their new classroom, asking thoughtful questions and taking part in a range of ‘get to know you’ activities. It was a lovely opportunity to begin preparing for the transition to the next year group.
Although we have been enjoying the sunny weather, it has been very hot this week!
Reminders
- Please ensure children come to school with a water bottle, cap and sun cream to keep them safe and comfortable in the warm weather.
